Send a General Text Message
Useful Information
Use this option to send a text that does not relate to a trip, dinner money or an extended day club, for example to notify parents of a child's absence; advise parents that the school is closed due to snow; or to send a newsletter.
Note that emails and text messages can be scheduled to be sent at a future date and time.
Send a General Text Message
Click on the Communications tab
Select Create a message
Ensure only Text is selected
(Email might be selected as default if this is the default option set in Communications - System Options)If you don't wish to send the text straight away, select Schedule message and select the required date and time
Note that it is not currently possible to add attachments to Scheduled messagesClick on the address book to select the Recipients
Using the appropriate tabs, select the individual recipients, or select via Classes, Year Groups, Cohorts, Staff as required
Select Include leavers, if required
Click Done
Type the Text message
Note that a warning message will be displayed if your Text message exceeds 150 characters. Messages of more than 150 characters may be charged as two texts.
Click Text message contact priorities to select a particular priority of contacts to receive this message (the default is Priority 1)
Select the required priority level
Click OK
Click Send
The contacts with mobile numbers configured will be displayed
Click on any line to read the message, if required
Deselect any recipients in the Send column, if required
Click OK and click OK
The text message will be sent and a list of any accounts without a mobile number in SCO will be displayed
If required, click the Export to Excel button to create a list of names in Excel
Click Done
Note: if both Email and Text messages are created, the recipient will receive either an email or a text message (not both) depending on the default import setting specified.
If unchanged during setup, the default import setting is that the message will be sent by Text to all contacts with a mobile telephone number in SCO. An email will only be sent to contacts without mobile telephone numbers in SCO.
If you prefer Email to be the default option, you can check and change the priority of these settings through Communication configuration settings (see section On import default to).
